ABOUT ELENA BOCHKINA

Elena Bochkina is a Jew born in Russia. She received her bachelor’s degree in educational sciences from Moscow City University, her master’s degree in educational psychology, and her doctoral degree in educational science, which she also graduated with honors from Moscow City University. Head of an international research group (Russia, China, Israel, USA) studying acculturation issues. Member of the Culture, Family, and Health Laboratory at the College of Education at the University of Texas at Austin. The author of the developmental theory of representation about the cyclicity of spatio-temporal processes in preschool children as a tool for social integration, whish based on development program “Me and Time”. Her research interests include: cross-cultural psychology (migration/refugees’ issue, acculturation, social stereotypes; cognitive research (cognitive differences among migrants gifted and normotypical; cognitive development of preschool and primary school children, the connection between the image-anticipation and intellectual development).

Acculturation

The main direction of research in the acculturation field is the way of cultural appropriation among different groups of migrants (gifted and normotypical). With Seth Schwartz and the Culture, Family, and Health Laboratory she studies cultural stress, optimism and pessimism, and specific of mental health of migrants, who comes to the USA and Israel from different countries.

Other Scholarly Activities

One of the additional parts of her research interests is children cognitive development. In this field she has developed additional general developmental educational program “Me and Time”, which became the Best Psychological and Pedagogical Programs and Technologies in the Educational environment – 2022.
